Cybertruck in the UK
The question we are asked most often that has nothing to do with a valuation. Here is the honest position, and why it matters to anyone watching Tesla.

The short answer
As of mid-2026 the Cybertruck is not officially sold in the UK and does not hold UK Type Approval, so it cannot be ordered or registered for normal road use here. It is built in left-hand drive only. Several regulatory obstacles stand in the way, not just the steering wheel position.

Where things actually stand
Stated plainly, because there is a lot of speculation about this online.
The Cybertruck is sold in North America. It does not hold UK Type Approval, which is the mechanism by which a vehicle is approved for sale and normal registration in Britain. Without it, there is no ordinary route to putting one on the road here.
There have been reported cases of imported examples being stopped by UK police over conformity and construction issues. Whatever the specifics of any individual case, the underlying point holds: importing one does not solve the approval problem.
We do not buy Cybertrucks, because there is no legitimate UK used market for us to buy into. If that changes, this page changes with it.
What stands in the way
Four separate issues, any one of which would need resolving.
- 01Type ApprovalThe vehicle has not been approved for the UK market. This is the fundamental blocker, not a formality.
- 02Pedestrian protectionUK and EU rules require exterior edges to meet a minimum radius. The Cybertruck’s stainless-steel bodywork is not designed around that requirement.
- 03Weight and licence categoryAt around 3.5 tonnes it sits at or above the threshold where a standard UK car licence stops being sufficient, which narrows who could legally drive one.
- 04Steer-by-wireIts steering system does not map neatly onto the existing Individual Vehicle Approval assessment route used for low-volume imports.
- 05Left-hand drive onlyNo right-hand-drive variant has been announced. Steer-by-wire could in principle make one easier to engineer, but that is speculation until Tesla says otherwise.
- 06DimensionsWidth and length are challenging for UK roads, parking and multi-storey car parks, which affects practical demand as well as compliance.

There is a practical angle too. The technology underneath the Cybertruck — the 48-volt architecture and steer-by-wire in particular — is the kind of thing that tends to reach other models eventually. If it does, it changes what we are valuing a few years from now. More from G.
