2018 Tesla Model X
Exactly why specialist Tesla knowledge matters
Very few vehicles have ever looked or operated quite like a Model X, and an older one is exactly the car that shows why a Tesla should not be valued like an ordinary used SUV.
This 2018 car had years of Tesla history behind it: falcon wing doors, air suspension, seating configurations, battery and drivetrain combinations, wheel options, hardware changes and software evolution. There was plenty to investigate.
What we checked on this Model X
Model X is the most mechanically complex car Tesla has sold here, and the checks reflect that.
- Falcon wing door alignment, sensor operation and any repair history
- Seating configuration and second-row seat operation
- Air suspension behaviour, compressor noise and recorded faults
- Battery pack configuration and warranty position
- Panoramic screen and glass condition
- Wheel fitment and tyre condition
- Charge port, cabling and supplied equipment
- Service and repair documentation
Why this one is interesting
The context a generic valuation has no field for.
A generic valuation starts with make, model, year and mileage. On an older Model X that barely scratches it. Two cars of the same age can carry significantly different configurations and histories.
The falcon wing doors are the defining engineering feature and the first thing we look at — operation and declared condition, as part of the wider picture rather than in isolation.
From the founder
Model X is one of those cars I can talk about forever.
Tesla didn’t just build another big SUV. They put falcon wing doors on it, gave it serious performance, created that enormous windscreen, offered different seating configurations and kept developing the technology.
When an older Model X comes to us I’m immediately interested. Which one is it? What’s the configuration? What has happened during its life?
Another Model X, understood properly
The car was assessed as the individual Model X it was, rather than as an eight-year-old SUV with a big screen.
Another Model X became part of the WeBuyTeslas story. If you own one, we would like to take a proper look at it — see selling your Model X, or start with how a valuation is built.
