2022 Tesla Model Y

One of the first-generation UK Model Y cars

The 2022 Model Y has an important place in the UK Tesla story. It was the year Model Y deliveries properly began reaching British customers, bringing Tesla’s crossover to UK roads in volume.

When this car came to us, we were not interested in stopping at “2022 Tesla Model Y”. We wanted to understand which Model Y it actually was.

What we checked on this Model Y

Early UK Model Y cars are where practical specification does most of the work.

  • Exact variant and build period
  • Whether a factory tow package is fitted
  • Boot, load area and rear seat condition
  • Roof glass condition, particularly the front edge
  • Wheel fitment and tyre condition
  • Battery warranty position
  • Heat pump behaviour and any related work
  • Which software options are on the car, and whether they transfer
02  Why it matters

Why this one is interesting

The context a generic valuation has no field for.

Tesla changes vehicles more frequently than traditional manufacturers. Specification, software, wheels, battery and drivetrain, manufacturing details, hardware and interior trim can all differ between cars built relatively close together.

That is why the assessment looked past the headline model, and why early UK cars like this one are interesting to us: they mark the beginning of a model that became enormously important to Tesla.

03  G’s take

From the founder

I love seeing 2022 Model Ys, because these were the cars that properly introduced Model Y to Britain.

But I don’t want our team thinking “2022 Model Y” and stopping there. I want to know the variant. The wheels. The mileage. The condition. The interior. The battery and warranty position. The software.

That’s what being interested in Teslas means to me. There is always more to understand.
