Documents needed to sell a Tesla

Short list, but every item on it can stall a sale on the day if it is missing.

The short answer

You need the V5C registration document in your name, photo identification, and bank details for payment. If the car is on finance you also need a current settlement letter from your lender. Missing paperwork rarely stops a sale, but it does delay payment, so it is worth sorting before collection is booked.

  • V5C must be in your name at your current address
  • A settlement letter is required for any car still on finance
  • Payment goes to an account in the seller’s name

What to hand over on the day

A short list to work through before the transporter arrives.

All keys and key cards. The V5C. Charging cables and adapters included in the sale. Load covers, parcel shelves and boot floors. Aero covers if the car had them. Any removable tow equipment.

And take out everything of yours: the glovebox, the frunk, the under-boot storage, and the door pockets. Personal items left in a sold car are rarely recovered easily.
